1) Bet small on the flop. Checking isn't bad but a bet here would be normal even if you didn't have anything. If everyone folds, I don't think checking would have gained you much anyway.

2) I can see making a case for either 1) Raise and see what happens B) Call and see what card comes on the turn. Everything else being equal I'd call.

Bet too small and you'll regret when the turn pairs the board and you realize you gave the guy odds to chase his boat.
