is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
i was observing a $200 buy in SNG on party poker. player chat- a couple of guys said that they can make $5,000 a day on this by playing "2-3 games simultaneously, 10 hours a day"....does anyone know first-hand of this being true?

Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
Let's assume that you can play 5 SNG's an hour spread over 3 tables. In 10 hours, this is 50 SNG's. The total prize pool is 10K on this action, and I recall that first place is something like 1/2 that, so this guy is full of crap.

Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
actually (correct me if i'm wrong) but i believe the total prize pool is 100k (50 pots of $2k per at $200 entry)....so he's saying he takes down $15k total ($10k repays his buy ins) for a profit of $5k.
is that realistic? unlikely? |

Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
Oh, yeah. You are right. My bad. I really should drink my morning coffee before answering these mathy posts.
What's first prize in these things? 1K? It's still very unlikely that anyone could do this. I suppose if you're really bored, that you could sit and watch him for an hour and see how he does it. The problem with SNG's (higher limits) is that people play very similarly and I don't think that the profit is that high for anyone. You really are basically chopping up the one (or possibly 2) very bad players' entries and that's it, less the house vig. A simple calculation would be to take the total pool of each tourney, 2K and chop it up 8 ways, so this is 250 a person. What is the casino take? I think that the buyins are something like 200+20, so each "shark" is making 30 bucks per tourney, and this is about 1500 a day. In fact, I don't think that the margins are anywhere near this good, but I don't have a lot of experience in playing these things, but I know that they play a lot better in the 200 SNG's than the 30 and 50 ones. |

They are so unbelieveably full of BS I wouldn't even dignify their stupidity with a response.

In addition to the obviousness of his being full of crap, do you really think A) he wins them / places often enough to do this, and B) that the competition at the $200 buy-in level is so weak that he can do this either. Really, people make all kinds of stuper-endous claims, but this one takes the cake.

Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
please help me (i brought up this issue because i'm seeking some reasonable shred of reality)...
on these SNG's (payout is 50% of pot for 1st, 30% for 2nd, 20% for 3rd)..how often should a reasonably sound player expect to win 1st, 2nd, 3rd? is there a benchmark that would tell a player if he's in the righ ballpark? obviously, the lower limit games are more ripe. how about the $50 buy ins? $100 buy ins? thanks! |

Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
Against good competition, like you'll find at the $200 buy-in limit, they are going to place about the same as everyone else, except for the few fish who enter, who will place far less often. Exact #s I am not sure of. But if you played nine clones of yourself, how often would you win?
FORGET about the stupendous claims of these people, it's not worth the brain power. The few people who probably can do this are certainly not talking about it at the table. al |

Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
At the $30 SNGs on party I think an excellent player can average winning $30+ a tourney, but this is difficult to replicate IMO when playing 3 tournaments at once. I earn about $13/tourney playing multiple tourneys at once, but I ain't no expert.

Re: is this true? can someone make this much at SNG\'s?
At 100 and 50 level, it is very possible to have 50% ROI (50% ROI on 47 $215 SNG's would give $5K). Some good players do this with ~17% 1st,2nd,3rd and some with ~20,15,13 and still others with ~15,15,25. If there is a huge jump in quality to the 200 games, I would suspect the winner would get only ~35% ROI. There might also be a penalty for playing multiple games, though probably not large.
That is, I think the claims made are possible, but still untrue. If there is any truth, this person is citing his best day. Craig BTW TJ Cloutier claimed that he could win 1/3 satellites, but I imagine that he is extrapolating his better stretches and he is really <~25%. (33,0,0 would give 50% ROI, and 33,33,33 would give 200% ROI) |
