Re: I found $640: now what?
You had to tell someone you found it. But my play would have been to mention to the bank that I had found some money, held onto it myself, and given the bank teller my phone number. Then anyone who needed to claim it could call me, and if they knew how much was lost it could still be returned. But this way no crooked bank tellers can steal my stolen money.
I found $40 on the floor of a restaurant when I was about 7, righteously handed it in, and the waiter told me at the end of the meal that someone had claimed the money but had offered me a $5 reward. My family later figured out that the waiter had kept the other $35. |

Re: I found $640: now what?
[ QUOTE ]
When one of the tellers was free - an older blonde, maybe 40, with a hell of a smile - I walked up and had to make my decision. I just put the money on the counter and sort of whispered, "I found this in the parking lot. I think its about $640." I didn't want to talk very loudly for the same reason I kept the money out of sight when I picked it up. "What do I do now?" I asked her, still hushed. Really, I was hoping she would say they can't really hold on to it and that it was mine. [/ QUOTE ] I would have done the same thing except: 1) I would have given it only to the bank manager in order to ensure that I'm not just giving a teller a Christmas bonus. 2) I would have gotten the blonde teller's number and given her another reason to have a hell of a smile. |

When I was 17 a friend and I found a bag with @$800, some cocaine and a gun. We did the right thing and called the cops to turn in the gun.

[ QUOTE ] This morning I went to Bank of America [/ QUOTE ] This is where you went wrong. [/ QUOTE ] There's nothing wrong with BOA. Anytime I make a deposit, it always posts the next day, I have free checking, and its one of the better banks I have had. Multiple times I had charges on my VISA/ATM card, I would send an email through their website, and every time they took the charges off with no hassle. To reply to the original thread, you did the right thing. Put yourself in the person's shoes that lost that cash. They might be financially strapped too, and they might be kicking themselves for losing it. |
