Question in postflop play after preflop Gamble
Hero is in BB.
UTG raises (2 bets), 3 folds to villain in 5th position who cold calls(4 bets)4 folds to Hero who calls with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 bets) I know that many of you are screaming at the moment. I admitthat it was a gamble and would like to focus on post flop play. No Reads on UTG, new to table, 1 0rbit Villain limps quite a bit in early position with A rag suited and low suited cards. We put him on a pocket pair, 1010-55, two high suited connectors, or AJs-A8s. Flop 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG bets (7 bets) Villain raises (9 bets) Hero smooth calls (11 bets) UTG folds Turn: J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villain bets (6.5 BB) Hero calls (7.5 BB) I now put Villain on pocket 7s, pocket 9s-10s, or slow playing AA/KK. If he had JJ he would have re raised preflop, and if he had pocket 8s he would have slow played a monster like I am doing. River: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain bets, Hero raises, Villain 3 bets, Hero caps... Comments? Suggestions? Concerns? |

if he had pocket 8s he would have slow played a monster like I am doing. [/ QUOTE ] this is one of the funniest things i've read in a while. as far as the hand goes, fold preflop and do some betting and/or raising before the river. and you contradict yourself quite nicely to take the hands that beat you out of his range. he would 3-bet JJ preflop, but "oh, he may be slowplaying AA or KK." and he would never play 88 this way. and his range is TT/99, but i know that he would never just coldcall JJ. |

Why is it so off? My one mistake in reading him was the outcome. He didn't have JJ or 88, like I said of course hindsight is 20/20

Re: Question in postflop play after preflop Gamble
you need to start raising on the flop i think. the turn call was a good way to miss bets

Fold preflop.
After that, position your mouse cursor over where the bet button pops up and click there every time it appears. |

Comments? Suggestions? Concerns? [/ QUOTE ] I am concerned that I may gouge my eyes out trying to stick something into my brain if I think about this hand any more that I had to in order to read the post and write this response. |

Re: Question in postflop play after preflop Gamble
What limit is this? Is it online or live?
Preflop, of course is somewhere between silly and stupid. Flop, I can live with. Turn, I think you need to checkraise here, or maybe donkbet the turn. You probably should be finding some way to make a bet here, out of position, check/calling the turn, and checking the river through is a disaster. You may as well checkraise, and try and guarantee that three bets go in on the big bet streets. The river is fine. I don't think you need to waste any energy on handreading, because you obviously played the hand trickily so that you could get multiple bets in late, so you may as well follow through with your plan. |
