Discussion
I really thought this was an interesting hand and I was faced with a difficult decision. I presented the hand with a result because if I would have asked how to play the hand facing an all in bet everyone would have assumed I lost the hand.
Anyway when I was faced with a push I put my opponent on a wide range of hands from a smaller pocket pair, Ace big, K big, and of course hands containing a Jack. We can also throw in the Harrington 10% bluff factor to further justify a call. All things considering my range of hands that he could have which I could beat gave me considerable call equity. I also thought if he had a Jack he might not make a big move on the flop and try to milk me. So I called and of course I lost the hand. I had him barely covered so I had to listen to everyone including the winner tell me how stupidly I played the hand. This hand reminds of a hand from HOH 1 when a preflop raiser with pocket Aces was moved all in on a Nine high flop and Dan mathematically justified making the call. It's amazing to me how poorly people play and how little people understand the game. The more I play the worse play seems to be lately. I think there's a tremendous luck factor involved in a large MTT. Playing well certainly helps, but if you don't get lucky you're short term results are going to suffer. David or Sirrio alludes to this in another post. Bruce |
