Hitting the back button wouldn't refresh what posts you had viewed, but if you refreshed, or if you clicked on a link to reload the forum, it would be updated. I think that it's probably impossible to have a system where the back button refreshes the forum of what you've read, but that doesn't wipe your post. Personally, I'd rather that the back button doesn't wipe my post.

I've had to undo the change I made to fix the back button as it caused problems worse than it fixed.
I think I know what I need to do to fix it right, but I won't have time until later today or possibly tomorrow. Chuck
