Post your worst \'double up to get even\' fiascos
Please share them with me, if you were ever dumb enough to attempt it. It'll make me feel a lot better.
I know the whole Martingale thing is a high risk sham but I kept pulling it off when I was stuck big in online blackjack. I even had numerous trips to the casino where I'd have a bad night of poker and make it all back with a few spins on the roulette wheel. So basically I got way too confident, foolishly carried more money than I was willing to lose, went on blackjack tilt and failed to double up like 5 times in a row. Net loss - $600. Not much to most of you I'm sure, but it was quite substantial for me. More than I've ever won or loss at any casino in a night. Did you learn your lesson after you saw Martingale's strategy crumble before your eyes? I hope I do. |

"...Martingale's strategy.."
Yeah, thats one damn fine strategy you have. Too bad it didn't work out for you. Sorry, but i have nothing but disrespect for people who play obviously -Ev games. Please don't. |

Plenty of people can play with -EV and enjoy it for any number of reasons (socializing, chance thrills, challenge of competition). Since they provide your +EV, you may want to change your approach from pure disrespect to at least some recognition of their legitimate goals.

Strangely, if I've been running bad at poker, it is almost soothing to play a game that I KNOW is -EV, instead of one that is SUPPOSED to be +EV.
Especially since, I've had a couple of times when the only place I could win was on blackjack or pai gow poker. |

Sorry, but i have nothing but disrespect for people who play obviously -Ev games. Please don't. [/ QUOTE ] By your reasoning, you should never, for example, go to the movies because it's a -EV activity. Sure, table games have negative financial expected value, but can have a positive utility EV for an individual. (In economics, utility is a measure of the happiness or satisfaction gained from a good or service.) And on that note, I'm going to go catch a flick and spend the evening at the craps table. |

Re: Post your worst \'double up to get even\' fiascos
There was this one time where I was down about 250 playing blackjack. I had a 100 chip and what I thought was a five dollar chip (very drunk at the time). I put down the hundred on black and the $5 on 24. What I didnt realize til after they said no more bets was that the $5 chip was actually a $500 chip. When 24 came up I totally lost it. and then I woke up.

Re: Post your worst \'double up to get even\' fiascos
I studied a betting regression system while in college in the '80s. A buddy of mine and I put in $250 a piece(this was a lot of money then) and went into Resorts in Atlantic City for some craps!
After several hours of chipping away we were up close to $150. Never saw more than four in a row on either side - pass/don't pass. Then we head over to the Trop. Lady goes on a tear making pass after pass after pass. We are on the don't. $5. $12. $24. $56. $78. $96. $125. Now we are at the point where you bet the rest of your bankroll. And my heart is pounding. The table is having a great time and starting to glare at me. I place whatever is left (about $250) on the don't and the lady throws 12. Push! She then rolls six. Four throws later she sevens out. The dealer puts a marker on my stack and proceeds to collect a tremendous amount of money from the table. Only after all is collected and stacked do they count out my bet and pay. This was hilarious. Next roll I drop back to $100 on the don't and the next lady throws a 3. I took the money and we quit up $100. Phew. |

Betting the don'ts is always good for evil fun. The best was when 6 friends and I went to a casino and commandeered one end of the tub...all betting the don'ts.
We were cheering the crap-outs, high-fiving on seven-outs, and chanting, "suck...suck...suck...suck" everytime one of us would shoot. |
