Re: Playing high/drunk
For some reason, I play ok B&M poker when I am drunk but online I spew chips like a mofo. I checkraise with nothing all the time. I stop thinking about my own cards and just "play the player", which is a poor strategy for limit hold em a lot of the time. I raise preflo in late position with almost anything. I 3 bet with hella medium pairs, and AT, KQ hands. Its pretty ridiculous.
When I play live though, I tend to be ordering hella coffee to overcome my drunken handicap. I'll play after drinking live in low limit games (4/8 and below), but its always after a party or something. Its never a plan to go drunk. I never drink anything but coffee, water, and orange juice at the casino. Last time I danced with the Chiba goddess, I couldn't count outs, frequently forgot which position I was in, and played really passively. I had no interest in beating other people, but I remember thinking "I hope I get lucky." I play horribly when I am stoned, and I usually play and think poorly for about 2-3 days afterwards. Mary Jane has a powerful lingering effect on me. |

Re: Playing high/drunk
MJ turns me into a calling station.
I don't really drink much but from what I've noticed in others it turns them LAG. |

Re: Playing high/drunk
I am a SLAG from playing six-handed and being drunk turns me into a LAG. When I play high I'm lucky if I can see my cards correctly so I couldn't really say what style that is.

Mary Jane has a powerful lingering effect on me. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, that stuff used to give me a hangover of sorts that messed up my concentration. I don't use anymore, and was never a big dopehead to begin with. I just think it makes you stupid if you become a chronic user. I never play well drunk. It definitely loosens my game, which might not be a bad thing, but I have problems focusing on my game and end up finding my mind wandering or chatting with other players. I have found that I play a significantly improved game if I just have a slight beer buzz. It makes me into an aggressive and instinctive player with a better feel for the game than I would normally have. Funny, the same thing was true for me when I used to shoot 8 ball every day in college. Best games I ever played where when I was just a little buzzed. |

The top cash player at the House of Billiards in Santa Monica always has a beer too. One time I shot pool stoned. I'm not joking. I think I made zero shots. It was uncanny. I thought the pool table was broken. At this time I was a good shooter. I couldn't play position very well, but I could definitely make a lot of long shots, bank shots, cut shots, etc. I have no idea how people function when they are stoned. Maybe the stuff I get is just too powerful? |

[/ QUOTE ] i more or less agree!!!.... no problem having a bunch of drinks at a casino. i think it actually calms me down in terms of not getting frustrated at bad cards. after a few drinks, i can just chat at the table much more easily and i think (not sure about this) that i would actually give off fewer tells while drinking (not a crazy number or anything). but online at home drinking wine, i think you can go pretty crazy... so i think drinking B&M is fine, as long as you don't overdo it.. |
