Re: happy or annoyed with poker book avalanche?
I find it pleasant to have a lot to choose from, but I don't buy much of what has come on to the market lately, because it often is filled with advice that is either already available in previous books or based on erroneous reasoning.
There's still niches for more good poker books to fill. I don't mind wading through the junk looking for them. |

While 2+2 books are of the best quality (and those by some other publishers like King Yao's book, for instance), most seem to give bad advice. I'm sure this has been talked about before, but there's some psychology to simply purchasing books. I believe that Negreanu mentioned that books give people a sense of empowerment. So people will buy books to feel empowered and then read poor advice, if they actually do read them. |

I'm happy...More books to choose from means more for serious players to learn and more bad books for fish who don't do their research properly to waste money and trip themselves up on.

Re: happy or annoyed with poker book avalanche?
LOL - I hadn't thought of it that way. Great point! You're right that only a small percentage of poker books are worth buying, and unless someone does their research, they won't know which ones.
I was in an airport bookstore the other day, and was shocked at just how many poker books were available. What was also surprising was that a fair number of the really-well known books were also available (e.g., SSHE and King Yao's book). |

Re: happy or annoyed with poker book avalanche?
I'm annoyed that the expected avalanche of NL books has NOT come to pass. A year ago we were expecting new NL books from:
Hansen Ferguson Ciaffone Sklansky Raymer We were also supposed to get a re-written NL section for SuperSystem that didn't happen. Instead all we've gotten is Fox & Harker. edit: and of course HOH2 |

Re: happy or annoyed with poker book avalanche?
The ratio of bad books to decent books are enormous.
The average joe has no clue what very few books he should be looking for. Also remember even if he should get good advice and buy for example HOH1. The odds are very likely he`ll NEVER really get intense about delving into the subject matter. The book will be briefly skimmed and put on the table to collect dust. People want immediate results without the effort. jim grass |

the avalanche is a great thing, people will buy the awful books and read them religiously and take in some great ides but it just won't be enough
