A8s best play?
I havent been able to get the hand converter to work so I have manually entered the info.
Absolute Poker $1-2 limit holdem 10 handed: No read on SB he has only been at the table for about 3-4 hands. BB is semi-loose moderately aggressive pre-flop but some what passive post flop. He tends to call down with marginal hands. Did I play this too passively? I didnt think I had a strong hand so I am looking to see a cheap show down. I have been playing some of my marginal hands very similar to this. For example second pair e.g kings with ace on board etc: *** POCKET CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [8d Ad] Hero UTG - Calls $1 UTG+1 - Folds MP1 - Folds MP2 - Folds MP3 - Folds CO- Checks Button - Folds SB - Calls $0.50 BB - Checks *** FLOP *** [Ah Qc 10c] SB - Bets $1 BB - Calls $1 UTG - Raises $2 to $2 CO - Folds SB - Calls $1 BB - Calls $1 *** TURN *** [Ah Qc 10c] [7d] SB - Checks BB - Checks Hero - Checks *** RIVER *** [Ah Qc 10c 7d] [6s] SB - Checks BB - Checks Hero - Checks |

Re: A8s best play?
If you're going to raise the flop like that, then you need to get one more bet in on the turn. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting bet into on the river and not knowing what to do.

Re: A8s best play?
I'd keep betting on the turn and the river, personally. You have top pair. Until someone shows some strength and raises back at you, you should be able to assume you're ahead.

Bet the turn. Checking behind the river seems OK.

Re: A8s best play?
I'd be folding A8s pre-flop UTG unless the table was LPP.
Bet the turn. Bet the river. Don't you have like the best hand? |

Re: A8s best play?
By raising the flop and not getting reraised or cold-called, you must assume that you have the best hand and follow through when a blank appears on the turn. With the board this way you can be pretty sure that the BB is on a straight draw, and the SB probably has a hand like Q-J (which likes this board as well). When a card like a 7 rolls out on the turn, make them call a full bet to see the river. Value-betting the river would be tough for me when my hand has not improved past A-A-Q-T-8, but if you're heads up you should bet. If both players call your bet, I may check and show down the hand for free, but there's certainly nothing wrong with value-betting as well.
You should also be careful about playing a hand like A-8s UTG - its an easy hand to get in trouble with, but thats another story. |
