Extracting with Quads
2/4nl on Bodog
QdQs on button. raise of 16 from seat 5. no reads yet, 2nd orbit. i make it 48. he calls. flop: JsQcQh (pot=102.00) he checks, i check turn: 3h (pot=102.00) he checks, i take some time and then check river: Kd (pot=102.00) he bets 60. i raise to 180. i'm wondering if my value raise was the correct play with two Q's on the board. he obviously has a hand, i'm hoping Jacks full or Kings full. but i'm thinking, most likely AK. would a push here work? what's the best play? |

Re: Extracting with Quads
Thats really all you can do. Maybe some pathetic 1/5 PSB on flop? You know he pretty much bricked unless he has JJ.... and hes going to pay you off with that anyway.
I might only raise to 140... I'm thinking AK could fold here. |

Re: Extracting with Quads
No, I don't think a push is good here. If he has AK, he probably folds to a push but probably calls this raise. If he has KK or JJ, he'll re-raise anyway.

Re: Extracting with Quads
Quads will come up so infrequently that learning how to get the most out of them is almost worthless. However, since that probably won't satisfy you, I'll give some advice: bet the flop. If you bet here, a hand like TT might think you are just making a continuation bet and try a fancy check-raise on you... then you can slow down and trap him. JJ is going to raise you all-in here, but might get cautious if a K or A hits.
One final reason why you should bet (probably the most important): so you are able to make more successful continuation bets. Anyone who sees this hand at showdown will immediately know that you like to slowplay your big hands. Any time you 3-bet preflop and then check the flop, alarm bells will go off (and it looked mighty suspicious here too). So, in the future, fire another bet on the flop and then show 'em that you flopped quads and mean business. |
