Luck, folding equity and more luck and I win (long)
Hey all,
Here is a few hands from the Paradsie $60K that I won last night ($17K) I only have the last 100 hands, I am trying to remember the rest. There is no question that luck plays a big part in any tourney. You are lucky when you re-steal with air and don't get called. You are lucky when you re-raise with the goods and getted called by a dominated hand. You are lucky when you get big hands in key situations You are lucky when your opponenet has a good 2nd best hand and you stack them. And finally, you are lucky when, like me, you get in bad and suck out. I sucked out hard three times last night, never for all my chips. Once I called, the other two my raise was called. For most of the tourney I hovered between 8BB-15BB's. I had some nice hands after the 2nd break (stealing on the turn etc) but don't have the histories. So here is two hands I remember, and the rest are from the last 100 hands of the tourney. I wish I had the whole HH as I did a lot of pushing over open raises to keep my stack healthy, and it would have been good to share some of those. Hand 1 - The bubble 91 left, 90 get paid. I have ~13BB's in the SB, laggish table bit stack opens (he was opening ~33% of the time on the bubble) from EP. I hated that he opened in EP as mostly he was opening in LP. Folded to me and I push JJ, he calls w/ A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], no one improves I double up yay! Hand 2 ~30 left, I have ~7BB's. Laggy bigstack (different from hand 1) is opening every pot, and making loose calls. The first hand he doesn't open in over an orbit, the 2nd table bigstack opens for 3BB's. I almost muck, but then figure he's just taking his first opportunity to steal, so his range is wide, I push w/ K9o. He folds. With the antes, I almost double up on this hand. Hand 3 BB=20K, ante 1K Good player (legggggy, 327K) opens in LP to 55K I have AQo on leggggy's immediate left (94K) and push Legggggy calls w/ 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] because of pot odds. No one improves and I'm up to 255K Hand 3 - very next hand I open for 55K in LP w/ Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] BB (337K) calls Flop comes 83J two clubs, BB checks I push, he folds Up to 292K Hand 4 - very next hand, folded to me in LP w/ A5o, I fold, not wanting to push my luck too much witth a weak A after winning the last 2 hands. Hand 5 BB= 20K 1K ante Shorty (160K) opens to my right all in I push (277K) 88 He shows Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], he doesn't improve, I hit a set on the turn, up to (473K) Hand 6 BB= 30K ante 1500 Folded A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG Hand 7 BB= 30K ante 1500 ***1st SUCKOUT*** leggggy took a bad beat and was down to 117K and pushes on the button I have A8o in the BB and am getting 2-1, legggy should be pushing any two so I call, get shown QQ I hit and A on the flop and another on the river, up to 611K 8 left Hand 8 BB=30K ante 1500 6 handed (2 tables) Laggy chipleader(603K) opens in the SB to 50K, I (587K) call the extra 35K with A4o. I don't re-raise here (I probably should have) as if I hit an A on the flop I'm probably good and can get some chips here. Flop comes 7J9r SB bets 60K I call thinking if SB doesn't bet the turn I can take it away Turn is Q completing the rainbow, SB bets 100K I fold Spewing chips like broken slot here. ugh Hand 9 BB=30 1500 ante Folded to me (442K) in the CO, open to 75K w/ K2 o and take the blinds and antes Hand 10 same level as 9. A limp and a raise in front of me and I muck ATo in LP. Open limper pushes, raiser folds. Hand 11 BB = 40K ante 2K Laggy chipleader from hand 8 lost some chips and is down to 443K and completes in the SB I (491K) push A8o in the BB, SB folds, up to 542K Hand 12 BB=40K ante 2K 11 left Good player (same guy from hand 2) (500K) in 3rd position opens for 160K, I (513K) push 99 out of the BB, he thinks and folds. With the stacks this shallow I can't pass on this hand here. I'm up to 703K Hand 13 same level as 12 Final table Chip leader (1.1M) opens fro 90K in the CO, I (679K) push 77 from the button, chip leader folds. Up to 845K Hand 14 BB=50K ante 2500 8 left ***2ND SUCKOUT*** Afer folding a pile of crap for what seemsed like forever I (845K) get KQo and open for 135K in 3rd position, shorty (57K) calls all in in LP, blinds fold Shorty has AJo, flop comes 36J, turn 3, and a big fat K on the river Up to 1Million Hand 15 very next hand I get 99 in EP and make it 135K to go. Good player pushes 608K on my immediate left, I fold, down to 865 Might be a little weak, but he was very good (came 2nd), and he folded to my raises and re-raises enough that I had to give him credit here. Hand 16 same level 7 left Same good player open for 230K UTG on my BB, I have KTo and fold Hand 17 same level 7 left Folded to me (783K) on button w/ A7o I open to 150K Good player calls in SB, Shorty BB (17K after posting) calls all in Flop comes J72 Good player bets 180K, I call Turn is a 5, he bets150K, I fold He turns up KJ and beats BB's 58. I HATE my flop call, more chip spewing, I should raise or fold there. (thoughts?) Down to 450K Hand 18 2 hands after spewing 6 left same level I (448K) get 77 and open push in 2nd position, all fold, up to 535K Hand 19 same level Get AKo in the SB, folded to me, I push BB folds, up to 543K Hand 20 same level Chip leader (1.3M) opens for 120K, I fold A6s on his immediate left. Hand 21 same level UTG (570K) opens for 150K, I (480K) find AJo in the SB and push, he folds, up to 693K Hand 22 BB=60K ante 3K 6 left Good player opens for 300K UTG, I'm in the BB w/ A4o and fold Hand 23 same level BB posts 60K of the 90 he has left Chipleader (1.4M) types in "gl" and raises to 150K, I find AKo to his immediate left and push my last 585K, BB folds!!!!, Chipleader folds. Now that's folding equity up to 812K Hand 24 same level 4 handed Folded to me (743K) in the SB w/ JTo and I complete. Good player in BB (1.4M) checks his option Flop comes 53T, w/ two clubs I bet 90K, he calls Turn is a beautiful J I check, he bets 220K , I raise all in to 590K total.....he thinks for a while and folds Up to 1.2M Hand 25 same level Button opens to 200K, SB call, its 140K for me to call into 565K pot in the BB, I have J5o and call. Flop comes A67, SB bets 110K me and button fold. BOOO chip spewing again Hand 26 same level UTG (640K) opens pushes, I fold A9o in the SB, I almost called but I have an aversion to calling with small A's. I push with them, but rarely call. Hand 27 same level Bigstack (1.6M) complete in the SB, I (976K) check my option w/ 24o Flop comes 3T4, SB bets 115K, I type in a raise, then chicken out and fold. weak tight me Hand 28 ****3rd and worst suckout alert*** same level Button (687K) opens to 220K, SB (1.7) flatt calls, and I (976K) have A6o in the BB. I can't figure out why button didn't open for his stack, but I get the insane notion that I can make them both fold with a push (I rarely got called with my re-raises and I was a little over confident) so I push Button insta calls w/ AJ, SB folded. board showed 5684T, and the happy side of variance gives this donkey the chip lead with 1.8M and 3 left Hand 29 very next hand Button (1.5M) opens for 140K and I push 99 over him, he folds, up to 2M Hand 30 BB=60K ante 3K 3 left I (1.8M) get KK on the button and raise to 150K, BB calls Flop comes 543r, BB checks I bet 210K, BB calls Turn is a beautiful K , BB checks, and I check I thought with his flop call that he had either a pair or a straight draw, and I almost bet the turn to keep him from getting the straight, but I wager against the the supposed 8 outs and checked to induce a bluff/value bet on the river. River comes T, SB bets 280K, I put him all in and he calls w/ K2o Down to 2 and I have 3M and Good Player has 1M Hand 31 Good Player completes on the button, I check my option w/ 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Flop comes 6Q9r, Good Player bets 90K, I call Turn comes 7, I check , GP checks behind River is another 7 I bet 105K, GP folds I have 3.4M, GP has 940K Last hand I get AA on the button and raise to 140K GP raises to 600K leaving 300K behind and I put him all in. He show AQo, and final board is JQ4K8 --------------- I didn't show a bunch of the open raise steals with garbage when it was shorthanded or else this would be 60 hands long. I really wish I had some of the hands from the middle part of the tourney becuase there was some good stuff there. Luck was a lady last night. Regards, Woodguy |

Re: Luck, folding equity and more luck and I win (long)
You should email Paradise and see if they can email the complete history. So how does that tourney compare to Party and Stars in terms of structure, quality of players, etc?

Re: Luck, folding equity and more luck and I win (long)
nice.
I definitely would have raised with the 24 in the bb middle pair, and I don't know why you bet on the river in the 2nd to last hand headsup with bottom pair. Nothing else stood out to me (that you didn't mention). Oh, the AJ push seems scary... not sure if it's right or not. But nice. |

[/ QUOTE ] i tried this when i won the same tournament and they did not give me the hh. it's much shallower than stars, but the pre-rebuy plays pretty much the same as the stars 11r. they do rake rebuys, which is kind of lame. |

Re: Luck, folding equity and more luck and I win (long)
thanks for that write-up. i especially liked that you included folds where you didn't put in any chips.
not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but i don't like this: Button opens to 200K, SB call, its 140K for me to call into 565K pot in the BB, I have J5o and call. |
