PL hand - an underfull
Haven't got the hand history, so I'll reconstruct it. No reads on any players.
PL .10/.25 (yeah, small I know, but I'm learning) Hero: in SB, A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Preflop: 4 calls, Hero complete, BB checks. Flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets 0.25, I fold, 3 calls, Hero calls (I figure I'm getting decent odds to draw to my broadway and backdoor flush), BB folds. Turn: A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Hero checks, UTG bets .50, 2 calls, 1 fold, Hero calls (again, decent odds to draw to my boat) River: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Hero bets 2, UTG raises to 6, 2 folds...Hero? |

Re: PL hand - an underfull
I'd pay it off, but I have a bad habit of losing money on underfulls. I think a better line is to check-call the river.

Re: PL hand - an underfull
I take it you wouldn't re-raise, then?! That's what I did...

Re: PL hand - an underfull
I probably would have when I was just picking up the game, so don't beat yourself up about it (unless opponent was a fool and your hand was good!)... in general, when you get raised on a paired board, particularly when the pair is aces, the other guy HAS to have a FH, probably nut full house, and in this instance almost definitely at least the 2nd-nut FH to your 3rd nut (his raise wouldn't be so bad w/ AAATT since you only came out firing when the 9 rivered).

Re: PL hand - an underfull
You appear to have a small overfull, not an underfull. This is a much better hand. I certainly would have called here. Your opponent may well have KK or JJ at this level. You shouldn't reraise here unless you are up against someone you know will pay you off with any kind of hand; reraising represents very definitely AK.
[i]edit: I didn't notice this was the h/l forum. Of course this hand looks like it plays the same anyway, but you could argue your opponent is more likely to have an A in h/l. This doesn't apply if there are usually 6 to the flop as in this case. Call anyway.[.i] |

Re: PL hand - an underfull
Check-call is the line to take and pray for a straight or underfull.
What's your line if the villian pops it back at you? |
