Check out the B&M Newbie guide at the top of this forum. It's gold.

Thanks didnt see it. I think I got a good idea and handle on things. One thing I didnt know was how much to tip. Generally speaking they say to have 100X the BB but is this much needed in a live game? I know the more the better but what do you think?

Not 100xbb only 30x for a limit game. Best advice: stay away from blackjack, play where there is no house edge: Poker.

Re: First Trip to a Casino... Advice?
Play BJ only if you know basic strategy...with 6 to 8 decks (which is the norm) the house only has a 1.5% advantage over you. You can buy a basic strategy card at most casinos and you are usually allowed to have it at the table with you to refer to...If you are in California...then don't play BJ...even if you are a professional cardcounter the No Bust games are difficult to beat. Don't play any 6 to 5 payouts and don't play BJ games that use a CSM.
When playing poker the main thing to remember your first time (especially if you have been playing online) is to mind your etiquette...always wait your turn. Alot of online players get used to the automatic action prompts and act too quickly. Also don't be nervous...esp. if you are playing low limits...almost everyone will be playing worse then you. Online limit players tend to be a lot better than live players...live low limit players define the term "live ones." The bulk of my poker earnings come from these super soft low limit games...although I still try to play my best game live its online where I usually have to work hard and play my "A" game. |

[/ QUOTE ] correction (F(my own)P)...the house only has a 1.5% advantage over you off the top of the deck ....in other words rigth after a shuffle....but high and low cards run in clumps. I strongly advise against playing BJ this time around...you should get a book on general strategy before wagering any money at the BJ tables... |

Re: First Trip to a Casino... Advice?
yeah I might make just a min bet for a little fun. The only game I actually plan on putting any decent amount of money on is Poker. Thanks for the advice.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with all that Mike has said re: blackjack. If you decide to venture into this area, check out "Best Blackjack" by Frank Scoblete, or any BJ book by Stanford Wong (Wong is to blackjack what Sklansky is to poker). |
