Are you sure that was a Day 1B hand?

Also - was it at the featured-table?
There are handful of cameras and about a zillion tables. They just don't catch everything. I'm not familiar with the hand you are referring to...but if you read about it on one of the WSOP blogs (like cardplayer or pokerpages or something) then there is a chance that the cameras simply didn't catch it. If it WAS at a featured table then there's a chance that there was a glitch with the taping or something. Just speculation...but I don't know when the hand took place and you didn't provide some pertinent details. |

it wasn't at a featured table, they just had a camera crew around him at an outside table.

Okay...well usually even if they get a crappy shot of the cards and the players they just take the notes and then have the announcers explain what was happening (even if you can't see ANYTHING they will do this).
But if the camera fouled-up somehow like the battery was dying or something weird then obviously ZERO footage of it means they couldn't show it. So did Hellmuth show his cards specifically to the camera?? And, again, we need to know if this was on day 1b or not. Obviously if it took place on day 2 then we know full-well why we didn't see it (yet). |

they never showed the hand at all, he was just playing at a featured table. the announcers didn't update with action that was already in progress or anything.

I don't really need to know all the specifics to know this can't be totally correct because no one who plays to win would fold AK on an AA4 (even a perceived weak tight like Phil)

This is incorrect. It was at the featured table, and it was 1B. He busted on 1B. Also, it was A44.

Maybe they're saving the Phil stuff for another episode, maybe there was so much good day 1b footage that they decided to split it into two episodes.
This also explains why the announcers said that day one was "split into several sessions" (at least, that's what I thought I heard them say...) instead of saying it was split into three days. Come on, ESPN probably had a camera guy dedicated to following Phil to the bathroom. There's no way they're going to miss airing Phil making "classic laydowns" like that. |
