A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
I don't know if anyone has heard of this book - it s the most recent book in Oprah's Book Club - but don't let that discourage you.
It is a fascinating story of the author's 6 months in a rehab facility after a lifetime of drug and alcohol abuse. While there are undoubtedly substantial differences between substance addiction and gambling addiction, there are also significant similarities - and this is an excellent look at the inside of the recovery process - and it is not pretty. It also takes you inside the mind of the recovering addict and shows you the hourly and daily struggles they face trying to rid themselves of their addictive behaviors. It is an amazing book - I read it in 2 days. |

Re: A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
huh, i meant to pick this up ages ago and completely forgot about it. thanks for the reminder, i'm going to go buy it right now.
do you read all of oprah's book club? they're usually very good books, despite how low your opinion of oprah herself might be. i'm reading rohinton mistry's "a fine balance" right now, and it's awesome. it reminds me of steinbeck's "grapes of wrath". what does this have to do with the psychology of poker again? |
