Re: Play Poker on a Work Computer?
Find out what the actual corporate policy is, both on installing "non-approved" software and on gambling using corporate assets.
As the person who has to write and/or approve these policies for my company, I took out the section that mentioned gambling for precisely this reason. If it is against policy and you choose to violate it, understand that they can easily see what software has been installed if the IT department is at all on top of things. Whether they'd enforce the policy or look at the logs of what has been installed is another matter entirely, and depends on the management's style. |

Re: Play Poker on a Work Computer?
If they ask you why you were play poker on the company computer, just tell them you didn't want to run up the company credit card for entertainment expenses during down time. You realize that the company is running a little tight right now, so you thought that you would do your part to keep spending limited.

Re: Play Poker on a Work Computer?
Most companies would be fine w/ you playing on the road. Hopefully your boss understands what it's like to travel all the time, stuck in some dumpy hotel eating free food (if you have an expense account). I don't entirely miss those days....you don't have to tell them you're gambling either. As far as they know you're just playing in the play money area. I mean you have to do SOMETHING to pass the time. I'd just ask if you could install games to play while you're on the road.

Re: Play Poker on a Work Computer?
as long as the company doesn't prohibit a private use of the laptop I don't see any problem.
and as otter said: you are only playing play money |

Re: Play Poker on a Work Computer?
These things generally fall under don't ask don't tell. The company will frown upon you for having it there BUT they won't fire you or anything of the sort. If you need your machine fixed, they may be kind enough to remove it for you. Unless of course you did sign anything stating that things of this sort are a fireable offense they have nothing on you. Now of course anything which is illegal is completely different. ie: kiddie porn.

Re: Play Poker on a Work Computer?
I use my work computer and they don't care. Of course, I don't play at work, but they knew from the opening job interview that I had, at one time, been a professional player. They don't look at me as a degenerate gambler in that way.
