Re: PLEASE HELP -- Going to Canada tomorrow
I'm probably too late to be of any help, but I crossed at Buffalo two weeks ago with only a drivers licence and had no problems at all.

Re: PLEASE HELP -- Going to Canada tomorrow
Getting into Canada isn't a problem, but coming back you may get detained for a bit. Not the worst thing in the world, (as long as you don't have firearms or naughty mind altering stuff on you), but it can be a pain.

Re: PLEASE HELP -- Going to Canada tomorrow
Customs officers are not police. They can't even stop you from driving if you don't have your license. They are essentially civilians with a federal job.
I cross the border twice a day in Buffalo (Peace Bridge) during the summer. I have crossed the border several hundred, if not thousand times. I have never once, even post 9-11, had to show anything more than my driver license. If you have a social security card, a birth certficate and a driver license...you have proof of citizenship. You will be fine. Stop at Duty Free when crossing and get some booze, and marvel at what you were concerned about...after it takes you 30 seconds to get through the booth. Just to cover all bases, don't bring ANY drugs. Federal offenses are bad. |

Re: PLEASE HELP -- Going to Canada tomorrow
u.s. shares its computer data on you with canada. so when you pull up the cars liscense plate is run and they know what they need to know to let you thru or not. if its not your car they will ask more questions. the more often you go thru the less hassel. you dont need a passport as of yet.

Re: PLEASE HELP -- Going to Canada tomorrow
I've crossed the border in Niagara Falls in a taxi cab plenty of times. I've been asked for ID maybe once. It's always:
"Where do you live?" me - "Toronto" "What were you doing in the United States", me - "Gambling at the casino" "Do you have more than $10K with you?", me - "No". "Have a good day sir" |
