bad beat tables pay out huge bonuses when a hand like quads or a straight flush is beaten. If this had happened in one of the live Limit Omaha/8 games in my area, for example, you could have expected a payday from 5 to 20k depending on how big the jackpot was at the time.

You don't have to get sucked out on to win a bad beat jackpot. You just have to have a very very good hand be beaten by a better one. It doesn't matter who was ahead at which point. The best part is that the loser of the hand generally gets the biggest chunk of the jackpot.
