The main difference is that in pot-limit O8, you are able to bet the full amount in the pot, whereas in limit, the betting structure is fixed (ie, you are limited in the amount you can bet).

Hope this helps!!!

Um, thanks, but I already know that. What I meant was; what strategies should I employ in one game that would not work in the other?

For one - scooping or 3/4s is even more important.

in limit - since you will get a lot of dead money you can still do okay halfing some pots.

in PL - most of the split pots, you can both lose out to the rake.

You will often have to muck a made nut low in pot limit if you do not also have a reasonable high hand. You can't be calling pot sized bets if there is a chance you are getting quartered.

Also, In PLO8 you will be seeing more flops than in limit.

I think the numbers around here show that solid/aggressive play in limit should be to see something around 22% of the flops while PLO8 will see around 33%.

Very helpful info. I have been thinking about making the switch to PL from limit recently and will take your advice into consideration

The difference between LO8 and PLO8 that I have seen so far is captured in 1 word: "and"

In limit, it's fine to have half the hand locked or drawing to it, and even if it gets counterfeited, you're okay. In PL, you want a piece of the flop *and* something else to fall back on if you're going to get a lot of money in there. Redraws to a low, a flush, counterfiet protection, etc. are much more crucial.

The biggest difference is fold equity.

In PLO8, it exists. In Limit, it doesn’t. Most people at most levels won’t fold decent hands in Limit, but they have to in PLO8 because you can put more pressure on them.
