Re: I hate online poker
Thanks for correcting me- Phil Gordon/Paul Philips. I knew I screwed that up.
Celebrity Poker is pretty pathetic, isnt it? I have since cooled off from my previous post. I live in Detroit, where the rake in our B&M casinos is so high, the playing poker on the internet is very tempting. You can beat the Detroit B&M games, but you have to have a very large bankroll, and you have to be willing to put in many many many hours and put up with crappy dealers, must move tables, and everything else. The internet is great as far as rake and everything else, but I have poor results and I cant deal with the frustration I described earlier. Probably I'm just an average player and average players arent going to be able to win much. I'm going to go ahead and say a few words about the different web sites. Doyle's room and UB seem like they are the same software almost. True poker and Noble poker's animation is a pain in the ass. I never get any cards at Party Poker. Poker Stars and Full Tilt seem like I walked into a room full of top pros. Paradise and Bodog seem like they are the same software. 1) They offer you free money to come and gamble. This means, they must expect you to lose an amount at least equal to the deposit bonus. Does your local B&M casino give out these kinds of comps? 2) Too many good starting hands in tournaments. 3) Players making ridiculous calls and playing hands only a complete moron would make and winning. 4) "Luring" hands dealt at key times during a tournament which are designed to bust you out of the money. These are big pairs against lone blind stealers, BB huge flops which get outdrawn, and hands that normally too tempting good to fold and end up getting beat. I admit, though, that the luck factor in Sitngoes is very large. If you are playing a sit-n-go against players with roughly the same skill, the luck factor is going to dominate. Since the blinds escalate so quickly, and you are constantly going to have to play hands which are usually 2-1 or 1-1 coin flips, the luck factor is going to dominate and only very skilled tournament players will be able to beat games. Tougher players are on the internet. Tigther players, like me, who do well at the B&M against the friday night drunks, are going to be outplayed on the internet against "real" players. The loose retards who play for fun at the casino on the weekdays just arent smart enough or motivated to get an online account and play. -J |

Re: I hate online poker
First...you're imagining a LOT of this stuff to find a reason for why you aren't winning.
The fact is, you just aren't a very good poker player (which you also acknowledged...but it really is just as simple as that). you need to get out of 'conspiracy' mode. Also: [ QUOTE ] They offer you free money to come and gamble. This means, they must expect you to lose an amount at least equal to the deposit bonus. [/ QUOTE ] For the most part...the amount that you play to earn this bonus is worth more to the site in rake then the actual bonus itself. It isn't a huge profit for them...probably close to break-even much of the time. But it's not like they are just GIVING away $100 (usually). 1,000 raked-hands to clear the bonus is plenty for them to make a little bit of profit on it. Example - if you play 10 handed at a table that has an average rake of $1.50 per raked-hand then you are essentially contributing $0.15 per raked-hand. Yet you are only clearing $0.10 of your bonus per raked-hand (if it's 1000 raked-hands to earn $100 for example). there are better bonuses out there than $100 for 1k hands of course...just showing that the sites are not 'giving' away as much as it might, at first, appear. They do quite well for themselves...and obviously they are still worthwhile for the player too a lot of the time. |

Celebrity Poker is pretty pathetic, isnt it? [/ QUOTE ] It's good when they have someone entertaining on, like Penn Jillette. I don't watch for the poker and avoid the episodes with no one interesting. [ QUOTE ] 1) They offer you free money to come and gamble. This means, they must expect you to lose an amount at least equal to the deposit bonus. Does your local B&M casino give out these kinds of comps? [/ QUOTE ] They expect to make back the money in rake, and rake doesn't care who wins, only that you play. Free money helps generate rake, as do redeposits. B&Ms have other, often better comps. Free room, meals and drinks at the Mirage vs. $100-max reload bonus? Hmmm... [ QUOTE ] 2) Too many good starting hands in tournaments. [/ QUOTE ] You need to get PokerTracker and actually check this. I think over >10,000 hands you'll find your perception differs distinctly from reality. Unless you think that PokerTracker is in on the conspiracy, that is.
