My hats have mold
So today I went out into the sunroom at my apartment. It's like a screened-in porch except it has closable glass windows so it's really sort of a less-insulated, more-ventilatable room of the apartment.
Anyway, my baseball hats are growing mold on them. (Also a couple of my older books that are out there have something that looks like dust but I think is mold.) I suppose this is because the insulation is imperfect especially considering one of the windows got broken and duct-taped up a about a year ago. So I think the humidity got to them. Any advice on if/how I should clean these hats? |

Re: My hats have mold
Don't know about your hats, but I've heard microwaving the books for 10-15 seconds will get rid of the mold on them.

Re: My hats have mold
Re: books. This is also a good way to start them on fire. Even for ten seconds. If it's a really old book the glue in the binding can fire off like (celluloid FMP) film. It may not though, but why risk it? Try lysol or something, maybe?

Re: My hats have mold
Have you heard this is an easy way to start a fire, or are you speculating? Some antique dealers recommended this method to get rid of the mold.

Really. No, I was speculating based on my orgamic chemistry background, and general innate gift to start fires in the microwave. I swear I set water on fire once.
Oh, and I meant celluloid in my original reply. |

I also don't think 10 seconds is nearly enough time to burst the glue into flames. |
