I think it's better to check the turn and call a river bet.

I think this is a good way to get owned by good players.

that's a little black and white, don't you think? I agree with you that I don't like it here though, because even if sfer "bluffs" the river after jason's turn check, jason is going to chop even when his hand is good.

Doesn't look like he has a very strong hand, JJ or AK most likely. Why not bet the river and try to fold AK? Or will he call it?

Darn inflation.... you know things are getting bad when 20/40 is "small stakes".

Let's never again complain that 3/6 is a lot of money, okay?

If it's right to bet the turn, it's right to bet the river. I think both are wrong.

But if its right for sfer to call the turn, isn't it right for him to call the river too? Isn't this a situation where you expect him to call with anything that can beat us but likely fold without an A or a pair?

I am not saying the bet on the turn is always right, but the bet on the turn does not make a bet on the river any better.

To all those advocating a check behind on the turn, can you please explcitly state whether or not you feel a call on the river is in line here, or simply check behind and fold to a bet.

FWIW, if Villain here is at all a tricky player, I'm checking behind him on the turn and possibly folding a river bet. If he is straightforward, I bet the turn, call a CR if I'm getting odds to hit my 6 outs on the river, and check through on the river if I don't hit.

What don't you understand?

On the river: Villain (sfer) will likely call with an Ace (split pot) or a pair bigger than 33 (we lose). Villain folds to a bet with any other non-paired hand. So a bet on the river gains us nothing.

I see Death Donkey's point that a bet on the turn may be incorrect, but I disagreed that "if it's right to bet the turn, its right to bet the river."
