Re: lets say everyone plays by the book....then is +ev still +? or -ev
[ QUOTE ]
is there EVER a "perfect play" in poker? i mean i know it depends on situation, people, and many other things [/ QUOTE ] Poker is a game of imperfect information. Because of this, the "perfect" play is simply an unattainble truth that makes making the "best" play both possible and necessary. The "perfect" play in poker is the one you would make if you knew everybody's cards and exactly how they will react to your play and how to adjust accordingly. Because this information is never 100% available, it is necessary to make sacrifices in order to account for your uncertainties. Making the "imperfect" poker play is the one that is the closest that you can get to the perfect play given the information that you have collected up to date. In response to the OP: Even if everybody played by the book, consider Mike Caro's "Law of Least Tilt". He states that in a game filled with players of equal skill, the player that wins the most will be the player that tilts the least. |

If every golfer played the "correct way" then all tournaments would end in a multi way tie.
Maybe not. There is no "correct way" to play. There are as many "correct" playing styles as there are people on the planet. Some players have more talent than others. Some players work harder at the game than others. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Example? [/ QUOTE ] You have at least one thinking opponent at the table that is emotionally unstable. If by simply calling the bet and not raising with the nuts, you will drive said player into confusion and in turn he will both bet worse hands into you allowing you to call more bluffs, and he will call you down more thinking you really don't know what you are doing. This would earn you much more than a single BB. [/ QUOTE ] Good example -- especially since it could work against me. link |

[ QUOTE ] is there EVER a "perfect play" in poker? [/ QUOTE ] Always raise with the nuts when you are last to act on the river. [/ QUOTE ] Even this is not true. You might go for overcalls True for headsup though. j/k |
