error in your favor, what would you do?
So, just theoretically speaking here, if you had a weird disconnect/crash at poker site and received an e-mail stating that they had reviewed what happened and credited your account accordingly and you checked your account and realized they had made an error in your favor (let's say it's about $100), what is the proper course of action? Swift, proactive honesty? Let them figure it out themselves? Take the money and run?
Just wondering, in case, uh, this ever comes up... |

Re: error in your favor, what would you do?
Something similar has actually happened to me on party poker. I told them they gave me extra $50, they argued against me that they didn't make any mistakes, so I kept the money. Then 2 months later they start calling me and telling me I owe them $50.

Re: error in your favor, what would you do?
Poker Stars accidentally over-refunded me $5 on a cancelled tournament. I emailed them, and they told me thanks for my honesty and then told me to keep it.
Really, honesty is the best policy and you won't lose any sleep over returning $100 that isn't yours. Unless you're the type who is a cheat and a liar anyways, then you might as well keep the cash. |

Re: error in your favor, what would you do?
i'd tell them about it. first, it saves any risk of being hassled by thier CS dept. and you avoid any uncomfotable situations where you have to explain why you took funds that were issued in error to some dude who doenst even speak english
secondly, since its only 100$ the site will probably just let you keep it |

What exactly is the downside...
...if you keep the money and change your behavior not at all??
I just don't see one. So one day, maybe, $100 goes away? BFD. You will not have your account frozen for their f-up (All bets are off WRT Party, moron factor is too high). So you'd prefer to buy $100 worth of good Karma? Donate a C note to a worthwhile charity instead of some filthy rich poker site. You break even on the money but you come out way ahead on the Karma. May I suggest the Boy Scouts of America? |

That's ball-free poker. If you really have a pair you keep the money and STFU. |

Re: error in your favor, what would you do?
Had something similar happen recently. Signed on to Casino on Net and deposited $100 to get a reload they had going, come to find out I missed the deadline because they are on UK time. No big deal I withdraw the money and they send it to me twice. I call to tell them this and they think I am telling them that they owe me money. When I finally get them to understand that I owe them money, they ask me to call back at another time when their London office is open. I call back, and office is still not open. It appears the office is only open when I'm asleep. They tell me to E-mail the London office. I did. They still have not taken the money back. The money is not mine it is theirs, but I feel I've gone beyond what is required to give it back and I'm done trying.
The funnier part of this is that while this has been going on I've also been trying to get money back from UKBetting and Total Bet that was wrongly taken from my accounts. Bottom line......if it isn't yours give it back. |
