Re: ESPN faked Set of Tens Laydown
[ QUOTE ]
you mean paul phillips was (gasp) wrong? [/ QUOTE ] You implicitly attribute to me something I never said, then proceed to rely on the second-hand word of a poker player about his folded cards (as if that information were safely reliable) to demonstrate that I was wrong about what I never said in the first place. That is a tough burn to take. I know it's the most exciting thing in the world for a guy like you to nail me with such a zinger, but you might get a bigger laugh (even by the relaxed standards of the vegetable garden that is your intended audience) if you wait for occasions where I am demonstrably wrong. But keep swinging! Even a broken clock gets there twice a day. |

[/ QUOTE ]Your exact words were "I admit that personally I'm a bit skeptical." So despite the fact that you devoted a whole page and logical dissertation with photographic evidence to this issue, your summation could be written off as ambiguously worded enough to allow you to berate someone for attributing something from you that was a little more... concrete? However, this all begs the question: Still "skeptical?" And since I'm in the question-begging mood, allow me another: Wouldn't an addendum on that page with this new information be considered good form? (For the record, I am neither a Paul Phillips hater or ass kisser.) |

Your exact words were "I admit that personally I'm a bit skeptical." [/ QUOTE ] In other words "I hold this belief." You cannot falsify the belief. I know these distinctions are lost on most people but they are actually relevant when evaluating claims. Here are two claims: 1) They faked the hole cards in the nguyen/hong hand. 2) It looks to me like they faked the hole cards in the tony/hellmuth hand, and here is why. I have made both these claims but only the first is theoretically falsifiable, although in practice neither is falsifiable unless you happen to know an omniscient being who is willing to weigh in. [ QUOTE ] So despite the fact that you devoted a whole page and logical dissertation with photographic evidence to this issue, your summation could be written off as ambiguously worded enough to allow you to berate someone for attributing something from you that was a little more... concrete? [/ QUOTE ] Words have meanings. I don't choose mine at random. |

You also seem to choose what to reply to with equal precision. Unless you randomly failed to acknowledge the two fair questions at the end of my post...
Edit: Okay, you did acknowledge the last question. Unless it was random. |

You also seem to choose what to reply to with equal precision. [/ QUOTE ] Indeed I do. Most of the time when I don't respond to something it's because at that moment the effort to do so felt greater than my interest in answering, but sometimes it's because my thoughts on the subject are nebulous, in flux, or otherwise uncertain. Or just because I don't want to share. Since nobody pays me for anything, I feel no obligation to answer anyone's questions. If everyone took this view the world would likely be a much more honest place. |
