What would he call with that you can beat?

Re: i raise the monotone board with a 5...bet this river?
I couldn't think of much so I checked and he showed Q8c and MHIG.
If the guy had more donkish stats and would call with an A then I'd prob bet but this guy seemed pretty weak/normal. |

I would bet the river. The only question is whether to fold to a raise imho.

My line would be to smooth call the flop and raise any turn, usually for a free showdown. Your line is fine too though.
I can find a value bet on this river if I'm willing to fold to a c/r (which I can vs. most opponents). Any A, 8 will call and I think a majority of spades would bet out in order to avoid a check-through. |

Well he could charge an unpaired flush draw more that way, along with possibly folding out a pair of 8's, 77, or 66.

[/ QUOTE ] You're not going to fold out anything with a line that makes no sense as anything but a bluff. Hero didn't PFR with something that could make a crappy flush, which is just about the only hand smoothcalling the flop and raising the turn works with. |

This line plays just like a solid ace trying to charge a lower pair or flush draw the most when the streets get expensive and his equity is higher. Likewise, it gives him a chance for a free showdown UI when there's a decent chance we'd call a river bet anyway. |
