Re: ANyone else dislike phones? No flaming please
My first real job out of college was as a reservation agent for a major rental car company. For two and a half years, eight hours a day, five days a week I had the same conversation 150-200 times a day (what city, what dates, what time, what type of car etc). When I would get home I would avoid the phone because "my ears were tired".
10+ years and a different job later I still avoid talking on the phone as much as possible. I would much rather talk to you in person or by email. Its too easy to become distracted when you are on the phone.... .... and thats all I have to say about that.... |

I feel the exact same way. Talking on the phone has always been kind of awkward for me because you can't see the other person. Non-verbal cues are a huge part of communication, and I always feel like I'm interrupting or being interrupted by people I talk to on the phone. I much prefer either face-to-face or written communication to the phone.

I don't mind phones, I hate interruptions. I often don't answer the phone. Email is good for this reason. While on the phone, though, I don't mind it as a communication medium. I don't mind talking on them, I hate the sound of them ringing more than anything on earth.

Same here. I don't have a cell-phone these days and I have caller id at home so I don't have to talk to stupid pricks I don't like.

I've been on three ocean cruises so far. The best part about a cruise vacation is the lack of cell phone service. The quietness is wonderful, as I don't ever have to hear a Mozart ring tone.
P.S. I hear the FAA is considering allowing cell phone calls during flights. Great. |

My life would be a lot less convenient without a telephone.

Re: ANyone else dislike phones? No flaming please
I don't like answering the phone and frequently dont. The phone ringing sounds like a scream to me - I hate it.
Although I do enjoy and depend on the convenience of having a phone. When others ask me why I dont answer the phone, I say, "If there was someone I wanted to talk to, I would call them." At times I do enjoy talking to friends on the phone. |
