horrible article.

also the guy saying that chess isn't and will never be popular is very inaccurate. It is similar to saying that soccer is unpopular (because it is not as popular in the U.S.)

Please tell me this is some kind of super-irony, and that you did in fact realize that the original post was a joke.

Anyone ever played Stealth Chess?

Stealth Chess has the same set of pieces as western chess, but with a twist—each player knows the identities of his/her pieces, but not those of his/her opponent's. The only clues to their identities are their movements. To start, randomly place the pieces on the board. The two players take turns moving and strategically capturing their opponent's pieces. There's no check, the goal is to capture the opposing King by whatever means.

There are hundreds of chess variants out there, and I don't see what makes this special. It's basically "kriegspiel", which has been around for over 100 years. The only difference is that there is check in kriegspiel. Kriegspiel of course needs a 3rd person watching if it's played live (not online though, where it is fairly popular at ICC).

Um, right.

The article was pretty amusing.

And there are way more stupid people on OOT that I ever thought possible.
