Well, if your opponent will call a huge overbet with a worse hand than yours, you should do it then too.

If you know they'll fold. If you have the nuts, or close to it, and are sure they'll call. To protect your hand on a scary board against many opponents.

Over betting seems to makepeople think you are bluffing and trying to buy your way out of the hand. I like to do it when i know im going to win (even if I dont have the nuts but am 99% on winning) in order to get extra value from the hand.
It is deffinitly situational and completely based on my knowledge of the villians reaction |
