Stars $10+1 Turbo Rebuy Satellite -- bubble question
I don't post questions here often so if I'm leaving out key details, please let me know.
I'm wondering what the correct play is in the following situation: Down to 26 people - top 23 win buy-in to $215 multi. Blinds are 6000/12000 - 23,400 in the pot before my action. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t12000 (9 handed) converter BB (t33250) UTG (t39491) UTG+1 (t6945) MP1 (t40692) MP2 (t17674) Hero (t14728) CO (t5972) Button (t23210) SB (t38460) Preflop: Hero is MP3 with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Everyone folds to me. Everyone has been folding to the blinds for the last round or so unless they are critically short-stacked - except for UTG who has been raising my blinds, forcing me to fold (he's already out of the hand). There is only one short stack behind me and I have him covered about twice-fold. The current blinds are among the largest stacks remaining - I assume the small blind will fold her blind (she's not in danger yet) and only the big blind will call if I push. What's the correct play for survival? Push or try to wait it out for others to bust out first? |

Re: Stars $10+1 Turbo Rebuy Satellite -- bubble question
I'm in the top 23 in chips (I think 21 or 22) but it looks like 3 of the smaller stacks won't be forced to act until after the blinds hit me.

Push. Seems unlikely you will survive to see 3 stacks drop, you gotta hope to get lucky.

Re: Stars $10+1 Turbo Rebuy Satellite -- bubble question
since I know I'm going to get called by at least the big blind, are you recommending the push because AJo is a likely favorite vs the random big blind hand?
Since 1-23 pay out the same, is that the better play vs. waiting 3 hands for my big blind hoping 3 people bust out and trying to get lucky then if they don't? Is there a clearly better play or is it a toss-up? |

Re: Stars $10+1 Turbo Rebuy Satellite -- bubble question
I stall until the time bank is activated, then fold. In this situation, it's important to have the other 2 tables open, so you can see if someone else is close to being all-in blind. If you stall well enough (and others do too), UTG+1 and MP2 will both be forced all-in blind ahead of you. Also, it stands to reason that at least one person on each other table will be in a similarly desperate situation.
When you push and get called, you're not likely better than a 3:2 or 2:1 favorite. Hell, the BB may wake up with AQ or something. So just stall and hope the tournament ends in the next 4 hands (there's a damn decent chance it will). |

Re: Stars $10+1 Turbo Rebuy Satellite -- bubble question
thanks for the tips - i'm new to multis and even though I've made it to a couple of final tables before, this was my first time dealing with bubble play. having the other tables open so i can watch the action is an idea i should have thought of at the time
as it turned out, i pushed ... BB had 9-2 offsuit and hit two pair ... i was out 26th |
