Re: Worst job you can think of
The worst job I had was running an incinerator at a manufactured home plant. I would shovel garbage of all sorts into an open flame incinerator. Every once in a while someone would hide an aresol paint can in the garbage. I was actually hit by paint can shrapnel once.
That job was so dirty that I would not be let inside my house until I was hosed down outside. I had this job for two summers in college because it paid well in 1982 I was getting $12 an hour which was huge for a summer job. Job sucked but in 1981 between college |

Re: Worst job you can think of
I had two terrible jobs.
One was working in a day habilitation center with adults with severe mental retardation. I had to change diapers on full grown men all day long. The other job I had that was far far worse was working for the Department of Motor Vehicles. My job was to verify records. From the time I got there in the morning until I left in the afternoon I would have to do the following... Take a pass/ fail card out of a HUGE box full of cards and type the license # on each card into a computer. A screen would come up and would have a P or an F stating whether the person passed their driving test or not. This had to match the P or F on the card. Each card would take about 20 seconds and there were hundreds of thousands of them to be verified. I would literally go days without finding a single record that was incorrect. The monotony was so excruciating it is impossible to describe. You had to use just enough brain power and concentration that you couldn't even daydream. I only lasted 3 weeks as it was just a summer job while I was in college but there were people who were doing this for a career who had been at it for years. I would have blown my brains out if I had to do it one more day than I lasted. I'll take gross, painful and disgusting over boring and monotony any day. |

Re: Worst job you can think of
My buddy had a job loading cayenne peppers into the grinder at a spice factory. The pepper dust would get everywhere and he said it felt like he was on fire all day.

Re: Worst job you can think of
worked in a fiberglass factory one summer in college. no ac either. so there were a bunch of 900 degree F presses in a factory while it was +85F outside. The fiberglass gets in your entire body and its terribly uncomfortable. you just feel like there are little shards in every one of your pores. it takes 2 weeks to get all the junk out. also, breathing it in cant be good. some people have been working there for 40 years.

Re: Worst job you can think of
I would also have hated that motor vehicle job. It sucked not only because it was mind numbingly boring, but because what you were doing was basicly a useless waste of taxpayer money. The bureaucratic moron who decided to do this instead of just burning the damn cards should be fired, or possibly taken out and shot.

[/ QUOTE ] The cards would come in from the various DMV offices throughout the state. Some blocks of cards would be entirely uncoded while others had already been entirely complete. Some blocks were mixed batches of coded and non-coded. They had no way of knowing which blocks were done and which were not. I'd literally go through hundreds where I had to enter P or F or else the license would not be issued then I'd go through days of finding cards that were already completed. The errors I was asked to look for were practically non-existent. There's no question whoever set the card system up was completely incompetent but as long as they could get some mouth-breathing moron to double-check the cards for $8/ hour it all worked out in the end. It just sucked being that mouth-breathing moron. Trying to stay awake was literally painful. |
