A Small Flush in the Big Blind
Villain had just sat down. No reads. Hate it? Like it?
Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (8 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, 4 folds, SB completes, Hero checks. Re: A Small Flush in the Big Blind
This is far too much of a hand to even dream of tossing away on the flop. Over 85% of the time you have either the best hand or the best draw. I also quite like that turn and river combo. If he bets you call, if he checks you bet. One question that comes up when you bet is what to do on a river check raise, and the answer is fold.

Re: A Small Flush in the Big Blind
Only part I don't like is the river. I think SB is being cautious with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] often enough that the bet is -EV (especially since the times he was pulling a Clarkmeister on the turn, he'll just muck to your river bet anyway). Check behind.

Fold the flop. [/ QUOTE ] Horrible. Hero played this hand pretty well. Flop raise is pretty good, I think. I think waiting to raise a safe turn is also an option. But a player betting a draw might not bet the turn all the time, and raising now is plenty good to protect your hand against anything that might consider folding anyway. Calling the turn I think is the right play. I can't see any reason to raise and fold to a three-bet or something because you can get to a showdown for the same price. I think folding is probably too weak as sometimes this'll be a bluff. With a read folding the turn can be the clear play, though. I don't think there's much reason to bet the river, though. Villain may well have a hand like 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or something. There aren't a whole lot of non-flush hands good enough to call here. |

You guys are awesome. He had Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
One thing I don't understand, though, is his check on the river. It doesn't make much sense to me. |
