Chinese Poker hand
Four handed pokerroom, I'm dealt 777555KK99AT8. The two options I see are:
a. 77799 555KK AT8, and b. 77799 555T8 KKA I opted for a, since there's a one point bonus for a full house in the middle, and I felt Ace high had a reasonable chance up front. I was I correct, or should I have gone with b? |

You will profit the greatest in the long run by not breaking the middle boat. However if it was a non-bonus game, breaking the middle boat is the best strategy due to the value of the middle trips and the pair. For the record, this is a rather hard hand to play. Good one. Take the easy win with the bonus. I'd probably play it greedy if it was >= J's full on bottom. |

The bonus structure means the hero should play the two full houses, however without a bonus the Hero has a greater expected value by splitting the smaller full house. Re: Chinese Poker hand
I'm curious, how weak would the front hand has to be to justify splitting up a full house, if it is ever justified? Also, is it a general rule that with a full house in back and trips in the middle, you put the lower trips in back? Unfortunately, I don't have the chinese poker software, so I can't check it myself.

Re: Chinese Poker hand
yeah but you had 5's full in the back and 7's full in the middle, you gotta reverse that.

Re: Chinese Poker hand
The software won't tell you this, the book by Don will. There are complicated charts to determine the optimum results for this hand, sometimes (and this is one of those times) I had to refer to the book.

[/ QUOTE ] No I didn't silly 5's full in the back and trip 7's in the middle if there is no bonus system, or 7's full in the back and 5's full in the middle if there is. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] What does the book have to do with any of the questions I asked? The OP indicated that there was a bonus. Therefore, Two full houses is best. Do you agree? And what's your reasoning for having 5's full at the back instead of 7's full? Are you saying if someone has quad 2's, that you should have a higher middle to protect yourself? This is true, but there is little gap between 5 and 7. If someone has 3 6's in their hand, it's likely to go in the back. |
