Flat Panel TVs
So I'm thinking about going in on a large wide-screen flat panel TV with my roommates for my apartment next year. I'm looking for a 40-42", flat panel plasma in the 2-3K range. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Bumpity bump
I'm really curious if anyone had any suggestions for flat panel TVs, or at the very least, what I should look for. |

Re: Flat Panel TVs
In that price range, I personally would opt for a Samsung w/DLP (not flat panel-but fairly trim) but if you're willing to sacrifice a few inches you could certainly do worse than a Sharp Aquos

Re: Flat Panel TVs
the panasonic ones tend to get the best reviews. You can get the edtv version for under 2500. www.avsforum.com has tons of discussion boards about tvs and home theatre. Some of the best advice is to go to best buy and see what you like.

Re: Flat Panel TVs
any 42" plasma you buy in that range is bound to be [censored] (e.g edtv or non-widescreen true resolution or a shitty brand etc).

Re: Flat Panel TVs
I bought a samsung 27" TV for $350. It wasn't high definition but damn the screen looks better than any TV I've ever had. It looks high definition. I was amazed when I brought it home. Samsung makes some of the best TV's I've ever seen.

LCD is a better choice than plasma [/ QUOTE ] try finding a remotely affordable FLAT PANEL lcd over 37". strong arguments can be made for rear projection lcd against plasmas, but flat panels have a very clear size ceiling (without bonding multiple panels which doesn't seem to be done). |

[/ QUOTE ] Plasmas also have better pictures in most situations. Neither one is perfect and I find both really acceptable but if you put a plasma and a LCD side by side in a non brightly lit room, plasmas have better blacks, no smearing, and slightly more vibrant colors. Of course they can also burn in if you play 3000 hours of GTA on one... |
