I was playing 5/10 at Turning Stone (somewhat high limit since they only spread 10/20 and 20/40 higher than 5/10 at the time and most tables were 1-3 spread). Anyway, I was chatting up a storm, getting everyone relaxed and trying to get them to stop concentrating on cards so much. One of the quiet older males who I haven't really talked to asked me what I had after I took down a huge pot on the river without showing. Giving away my hand would be dumb...how do I pretend to be nice while saying "f off" at the same time?
Editted for spelling reasons. |

I told someone that I didn't feel like telling them and then they said something jerkish and then I heard him whiper to his friend "we're all not trying to win the WSOP"
some people are just idiots, I say tell him to F off. |

Smile and say "big hand." If he asks "pocket aces," or whatever, wink and nod in the affirmative.

jacks. you had jacks. [/ QUOTE ] daryn is right. Amazing how often I have Jacks. If that doesnt work, then I always wink and slyly say "The Winning Hand". 95% of the time the questions will stop at that point, and you are still keeping a friendly table image. I've been telling 'em "top two pair", but "Jacks" may be an even better response. For persistently annoying questioners, I usually go the "pay me off next time if you're curious" route.

Say he can pay one BB to see one card. If he wants to see two, well thats 2 BB's.

I think you should make up a name for a hand, say it straight like everyone should know what it means.
"I had a Jolly Roger." "Oh, I had Pocket Hippies." "My cards? Oh just a couple of Hubcaps." |

I have 3 standard replies that I use:
"a big suited pair in the pocket" "pair o' ducks" (no matter what was on the board) "I don't remember" For the most part people respect the last answer for what it's worth (real meaning: I'm not gonna tell you, and that's part of the game). I like using this one because I will sometimes show if there is strategic value (tilt factor, psyops, etc.) |
