Re: Was it dumb to coffehouse this?
I've been getting called by a lot of LAggy types who think I'm bluffing lately, ad then have invariably sucked out. She was a bit tighter than most.
My intent was to let her know I knew I had her beat. Guess it didn't work. Does anyone think she would lay this down because of my chat or does it encourage her to call? |

Re: Was it dumb to coffehouse this?
Why do you think that it would be dumb? I actually will do this kind of thing frequently when I'm folding; I've found that if you conjecture out loud about the player's hand, they are somewhat more likely to show you when you fold, particularly if you were dead wrong.
In response to your comment above, I don't think it would have much effect one way or the other. I think people generally ignore your chat in these kind of situations because of the whole reverse psychology angle that is potentially involved. Perhaps I'm wrong about this, but I think she's likely to make the move she was going to make anyway. |

Re: Was it dumb to coffehouse this?
Because I think I accidentally induced a call when I reraised after my chat.

Re: Was it dumb to coffehouse this?
Why the HELL do you want her to fold a five-outer?

Re: Was it dumb to coffehouse this?
Good point. So you think this play was a good idea so as to INDUCE a call?
What if I was wrong and it was a set? Then I've made it an easy call if she has 55. Maybe this was an unintentional bad beat whine. |

Re: Was it dumb to coffehouse this?
I doubt the chat had much effect either way. As was stated before, people just tend to ignore it and do whatever they were going to do anyway. It's kind of like getting "reads" from how long people take to respond. Maybe they're thinking. Maybe they're changing a diaper. Who knows or cares? It will be an easy call for her with 55 no matter what. There's nothing you could say to get any player with more than eight brain cells to fold a set there. FWIW I think you don't really want to be called because it usually means you're beat, but by A7? Sure!

Re: Was it dumb to coffehouse this?
I'm trying to decide if online coffeehousing is a good idea or not. If it was a waste of brain cells to read it, why waste more in responding?
