Fairly deep heads up hand
2-5 game, villain has about 800, Hero has about 1000.
Match has been going on for about an hour villain will take a flop with any two for a reasonable sum, and will occasionally bluff on the end. Villain limps on button. Hero makes it $20 with Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Villain calls. Flop comes T-7-4 rainbow. Hero bets $35, villain calls. Turn: K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], putting two on board. Hero bets $45, Villain calls. River: Non- [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q. Hero bets $175, Villain raises all-in. Re: Fairly deep heads up hand
first of all, where were you playing?
The size of the bet compared to the size of the pot means that you should only call if you are pretty sure that you are ahead and considering the board and the pervious action i think this is a pretty easy fold. |

Re: Fairly deep heads up hand
I agree with smock that this is an easy fold on the river. I was the villain and had J9, flopped a gutshot, turned it into a double gutter and then caught the Q on the river and got paid off.
In a regular game i would have folded on the flop, but against this opponent, who had a propensity for calling huge bets on the end, I started to ignore the current odds the pot was giving me and focused only on the implied odds he was giving me. Against this type of opponent, how far can you take this type of play? I guess what I'm wondering is this. If you know you can double through your opponent if you make your hand, just how much more are you willing to gamble? |

Re: Fairly deep heads up hand
if you *know* you can double through, then you have very good odds.
every time you call a bet of his, consider the odds to be... <bet_size>:<pot_size + opponent_stack_size> flop (~$40), hero bets $35 you are calling $35 to win ($75 + ~$945) turn (~$110), hero bets $45 you are calling $45 to win ($110 + ~$900) but if you want to get really complicated, you need to estimate the probability that he's going to give you his stack if you make your hand. Say you calc it to be 75%...well that changes things. Do you see how/why? |
