Is there such a thing as too tight
Is there such a thing as too tight? I'm very disciplined in this but not sure it's a good thing.
Whether running good or bad I won't play a lot of hands others will, even from the button, not once in 1000s of hands: K9s, Q9s, 57s, A8o, etc. I Won't touch suited cards with even one gap. Even after a bad beat (no tilt) or when it seems like I'm hitting everything. I believe these are the right moves in the long run...right. The people I play with in B&M games look at me like I have a 3rd head when I get a cold streak of cards and don't play for almost 2 hours, and often playing this tight doesn't do much for me. |

Re: Is there such a thing as too tight
Of course you can play too tightly. If you played only AA, that would clearly be too tight. If you played every hand, clearly too loose. The optimal approach is decided by game conditions, opponents and position.
For what it's worth, you sound like you play too tight. |

Ah, ElSapo beat me to the aces example. I cede it to him.

Re: Is there such a thing as too tight
online stats usually have me seeing between 15-20% of the flops...while others I've talked to say they see around 30% and are successfull. However I once posted a hand wherein I played KT from late position and was told it was crap.

Re: Is there such a thing as too tight
used to be I was chastized for playing trash, post sshe I started playing only the quality hands (loosening up a little in late position) and now I'm too tight...
I'll say one thing, if you can err on one end or the other I may be err'ing on the tight side but am doing alot better. |

Re: Is there such a thing as too tight
In a game with a few limpers to you on the button, you should be playing your top 40% of your hands. Think about that and you will see how tight you are playing.
K9s, Q9s, 45s, 86s, JTo all become verry playable here. |

The people I play with in B&M games look at me like I have a 3rd head [/ QUOTE ] you have 2 already? Yes. There is such a thing as too tight., and not playing K9s on the button with lots of weak limpers in from of you is a -EV play. You can still win if you don't play this, but not as much if you do. |

You mentioned casually playing KT in a post complaining about bad beats. You probably should start posting some hands instead of just vague, general questions. I'm sure it would be more productive. Re: Is there such a thing as too tight
too tight >> too loose
but neither is good. if you were too loose, and now are too tight... start playing pocket pairs from any position. likewise Axs. from the button REALLY loosen up, any two T or higher unsuited, a lot of suited 1 gappers, high suited 2 gappers try blind stealind more from the button and CO with any hand you'd consider limping with (or most, anyway). do it first with hands just below your current standards, and start expanding. what's your VP$IP? |
