anyone else get effed by the unpredictably bad level of play there? i know its low limit and whatnot to expect, but it still managed to do me in. any theories other than that i suck? it being my first time in vegas i had higher hopes, as similarly low limit at bellagio was a much more beatable game. am i just too predictably tight?

The 2-6 game there is one of the best low limit games out there.

Agreed. I paid off my airfare in a couple of hours there. It was very frustrating game though. I remember wondering why I kept bothering trying to put people on hands when the range was really any two cards.
My theory on why you lost. Everyone loses sometime. Don't sweat it. |

Are you accounting for diffences between 2/6 spread limit and the more traditional structured limit games. The players vary greatly, but sometimes you can end up on a table with loose but cheap players who only bet $2 on their big cards. Flush draws and small/medium pairs go way up in value if you can draw for $2 and get paid off for $6 when you make your hand.
I've enjoyed the place since they expanded. Yes the rake is high, but the players are awful. The physical layout and location of the room seem to suck in gamblers as they walk past the aisle adjacent to the rail. Young guys with sunglasses, middle-aged guys who've dropped big bucks at blackjack or craps and plan on changing their luck at a different game, vacationers staying at the huge hotel, those are my type of players. The Excalibur doesn't seem to attract the poorly funded pensioners found in other rooms. A better beer selection would be welcome, but... I suspect you are merely dealing with a small sample space. Loose, crummy players will push your variance up, but over the long run, you should do fine there. good luck |

Variance is high in any low limit game.

1) Play the baby no-limit.
2) Wait 'til you have the best of it. 3) Stick in your chips. 4) Rinse and repeat. Felicia |

Felicia's no-nonsense approach to the excal will simply get the money, with no frills, no fluffy-ness, no poofty-ness, not much at all except a story and a heavier wallet at the end of the night. That's why we like her.

It's one of the best low limit games, absolutely agreed -- I think the very best low / micro limit game is the 3-6 at the Goldstrike in Tunica.
I only logged 30 hours in the game, but in those 30 I racked up almost 200BB. Ridiculous action. Barron Vangor Toth www.BarronVangorToth.com |
