Overpairs on paired boards
Recently, I was playing online at the Prima $2/4 no limit game($400 buy in 6 max.) and had built my stack nicely to about $1100. Hero dealt K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] on the button. One limper and i make it $16 to go. The blinds fold and limper with about ($800) calls.
Flop:9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] To my surprise, villian leads at at the pot($38) for $24. I try to narrow the villian down to three hands and go from there. He either is on a flush draw, which is obvious, has an overpair to the board, or has a 9. I am curious what you guys think is the best course of action for this hand? |

Re: Overpairs on paired boards
Raise to $80.
If a non spade turns he will check to you probably 90% of the time. If he leads out for under $100 I would most likely call hoping he was on the draw, more than $100 I would put him on the 9 wanting to push out the draw and would fold. Bet about $200 on the turn, if he calls or raises then you are SOL. I would definitely raise the flop here for information and because it will most likely buy you a check on the turn. |

Re: Overpairs on paired boards
I would actually put him on a small pair (3's-8's). Realistically, an overpair would have raised pre-flop (probably). Unless the guy is really aggressive, he's probably going to check-call a flush draw. And if he had a 9, wouldn't his most likely line be to check-call or check-raise (unless he's really tricky).
Personally, I would definitely include small pairs in his possible range of hands. He limp-called hoping to hit his set, but instead, he gets the next best flop possible (paired board and an undercard). He doesn't put you on a 9, so he leads out hoping you'll fold you big pair or AK. At least that's what I'd do if I were the villain with a pair of 6's. I think you have to raise here and see what he does. The stacks are deep enough that you can put a nice raise out without getting overly committed. |

Re: Overpairs on paired boards
With stacks that deep I like raising a little more preflop.
