Correct way to play quads?
3-6 Live at a casino that I go to a lot. I have played with the button many times before. She is an elderly lady that always sits in the five seat. Not a very creative player, but plays pretty solid. I'm in the 3 seat when this hand gets dealt.
Folded to me two off the button. I get Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and raise. Old lady in the 5 with the button calls. BB calls. Flop comes K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I flop quads and am going to slowplay the flop. Correct? BB check, I check, B bets. BB folds, I call. From here, I put her on either a K, a medium pocket pair, or a big heart draw. Turn is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I check, B bets, I raise, B calls. I raise because she isn't one to fold the turn. If she has any of the hands that I put her on, she won't drop. She plays pairs and draws to the river. River is 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I bet out hoping she made her Ace high flush and she'll raise. It's very unlikely for her to bet a K or pocket pair after my c/r on the turn. She calls the river and turns over 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. She flopped an open-ended straight flush draw. That was the closet I've been to a jackpot. Anyways, was my play correct throughout the hand? |

Re: Correct way to play quads?
Bet out on the flop.
If she knows how to play, she will raise, then you 3bet, and she caps. You bet out on the flop and she either calls or possibly raises again. You bet out on the river and she will usually raise, if not at least call. (I have no experience with jackpots and if your strategy should change or not, I don't think it should though) |

Re: Correct way to play quads?
I didn't bet out on the flop because I wanted someone to make some sort of hand or bluff if it got checked around. I didn't know if either the BB or the B hit that K.

Re: Correct way to play quads?
Is this that old lady at the Hustler with the big old lady tinted prescription sunglasses who sits in seat 5 and shakes her head and curses under her breath when someone draws out on her?

Re: Correct way to play quads?
I would also bet the flop. It looks real fishy when the PF raiser check/calls the flop then c/r the turn. Good thing she had such a huge draw to continue with.

Re: Correct way to play quads?
Bet the flop. How much you make when you flop quads has little to do with slowplaying and everything to do with whether or not your opponent(s) catch a good piece of the board.
If the other players don't hit the flop you win a small pot no matter how you play your quads. When your opponents catch a big piece of the flop or a big draw, you'll win the most by playing it fast since everybody expects the big hand to slowplay. |

Re: Correct way to play quads?
Realize that you have flopped a winning hand but not a very good hand. Your money-making potential is inherently small.
Normally you should probably bet the flop here. Not betting this board 3-way is very strange behavior for a PFR. The jackpot changes things if it is really large and the opponents don't chase much. You may want to give a free card to keep a backdoor straight flush draw in the pot. Slowplaying certainly is not a large mistake without the jackpot and you are probably around 10000-1 to hit. |
