I don't play professionally (thanks to a dissertation fellowship) -- I missed that part of the initial post, and did not mean to suggest that I did.

I don't play professionally but I'll answer anyway...I do play seriously just about every night.
$50 on Paradise in 2001. Lost it playing .50/1 $15 on Planet Poker. Lost it at the .05/.10 Deposited another 15 which I lost. Then deposited $75 and that was it. Been a pretty steady climb in bankroll since then. |

I'm no pro, but...
Lost multiple $50 and $100 deposits on PP over the course of 3-4 months(about 3-4 I'd say) Made a big tilty deposit of $1000 to play big games where "people would respect my raises and not suck out)... lost it, whodda thunk it! Deposited and lost $100 on Paradise (-$1500 at this point in my sad poker career, I kept accurate to the penny records) Got ToP, got SSHE, began using Poker Tracker, began posting/reading on the 2+2 boards Deposited $50 into PP and have turned that into about $3620 (about 1250 of that is probably bonus). I have withdrawn $1550 (to replace the total sum I have deposited in my online poker life) thus my entire bankroll is now just the "white meat" (winnings/bonus). I plan on making no more withdrawals and just seeing how big I can grow that roll. |

phillydilly,
I'm right there with you man. First deposit was $50 on UB. Lost that and a lot more for several years until I finally found 2+2 and read some books. Ha! Turns out there was strategy to this game! |

First deposit was $500 on Stars (during a dep bonus) and started playing the short-handed $2/4 game. I, too, thought since that that's what I'd played in the casino (all of three times) that I should start there.
Bad idea. Then I realized I sucked at hold'em and started learning O8 then Stud/8 and have rarely gone back to HE. |

I'm curious as to how the distribution of people who lost several deposits before figuring it out and those who didn't correlates to experience live and in home games.
When I started playing holdem, I knew inside and out that I had no real idea what I was doing in that specific game, though I had a lot of general gaming experience. I think that contributed quite a lot to my success. |
