I think the biggest problem with checking fifth is even if your opponent is bad, he probably isn't completely retarded. Checking fifth just smells like trips more than betting does, bc you would bet fifth with or without trips. I just think it looks really suspicious when someone pulls this play. However, if your opponent really is that dumb maybe it is a good play.
