if you're not looking for a flop full of undercards what are you looking for? set or fold?

[/ QUOTE ]

Implied odds... I figured I could stack an overpair if a 10 falls or possibly bet JJ, QQ, or KK out if an ace flopped, depending on how the hand progressed. So a 9-high flop of a black suit wasn't really what I was looking for.

Why do you play poker? do you play for fun, kill boredom, money, enjoy the competition?

Fun and enjoy the competition. You can throw money on the list too since I probably would have quit by now if I wasn't making money, but it's definitely secondary to the first 2.

Like I said, I know this is an area of my game that I need to work on. Thanks for the words of wisdom though, they were good.

Unless a re-raise from my opponent could mean a hand like KJs or 77, I probably check fold on way less scary boards than this one. Now matting on my read and I had a good feeling I had the best hand I would tend to lead the flop rather than Check Raise. So like Bet if you think his min raise range of hands is pretty wide and like check fold if you think his min raise means good hand.
