Re: One Flew over the Cuckoo\'s Nest
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Gonna Labour the point here, but the book is outstandingly good. The backdrop to the writing of the book is pretty interesting also -- Kesey was working at an institute testing out drugs. He then went on to bring LSD to the masses and was a central figure in the early hippy movement. It's worth picking up a history of Kesey and the Merry Pranksters.... the Tom Wolfe one is the most famous but not to everyones taste. [/ QUOTE ] "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" Featuring Neal Cassady, who was Kerouac's 'On The Road' partner, and driver of Furthur. Great American history. [/ QUOTE ] awesome book |

[ QUOTE ] what an incredible performance by all parties [/ QUOTE ] probably why it was the last movie to sweep the the oscars in the major categories. like what has been said kesey is the man. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think it was. Silence of the Lambs did too (though I'm not positive). Depends what you mean by "major categories" I guess. |

Re: One Flew over the Cuckoo\'s Nest
The movie's pretty good, but the book is much better. Read it. The schizophrenic Indian who is a pretty minor character in the movie is the narrator in the book. The story is interspersed with his hallucinations and delusions.

Re: One Flew over the Cuckoo\'s Nest
The book was much, much better than the movie (which I found to be very disappointing).
Another poster mentioned "Sometimes a Great Notion", too, and that book is also excellent. It might very well be as "Cuckoo's Nest", imo. |

"Sailor Song", another Kesey book, has a passage that I consider the funniest I've ever read anywhere. That dude is a writer extraordinaire. Also, don't miss "Acid Test", though it probably loses something without a little Sunshine to accompany it. Then you could branch out to "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". |

One of the greatest movies ever, and the book is infinitely better.
