Re: 200/400 hand 2
[ QUOTE ]
So the consensus is turn three-bet and I think that's correct. As the hand played out, he called my check-raise and I won. -James [/ QUOTE ] Did you c/r the river intending to get called by a worse hand? One of the areas i'm trying to work on in my game is making thinner value bets, and being able to make thinner value raises when I think somebody else is making thin value bets. If that was your plan, lable me extremely impressed. lf |

theyd call me. [/ QUOTE ] No, they wouldn't. I lag it up plenty, and my image gets me paid off regulary. Most players in my game aren't betting that river w/out a heart in their hand, and there's no way their calling a raise from anybody. I guess its just a different mentality in different limits and different parts of the country. I can't imagine betting the river with one pair on that board. You could make a case for it given that James went nuts on the flop and then just called the turn (sure looks like a heart draw), but after the only hand one pair can beat gets there a bet with one pair is nothing more than a bluff, calling the raise is horrible. lf |

Next step
Okay, If 3 bet is the correct play, what is the correct play if he 4 bets?
Fold or call and c/f river UI? Ch/c down? If the 3 bet decision is correct, clarify what to do. It's a tough spot and 2-4 is out of my league. Help me out. |

Re: 200/400 hand 2
I'm not surprised he called the river with a worse hand, but I am surprised that he bet with a worse hand. He would expect you to bet the river with a flush decent flush I think. He would also expect you to check and call with a crappy flush. When you checkraise the river, now he just thinks you are full of it. You wouldn't check the nuts on the river, and you wouldn't checkraise with a bad flush. So now he thinks you are bluffing, so he calls with his pair hoping to snap off your bluff. But sadly for him, you have 2 pair. He should have 3 bet the river.

Re: 200/400 hand 2
i like 4betting and leading bc it protects from some free card bs. still, if you know he is the type to always follow thru then i would prefer the flop call and turn checkraise. but you must 3bet the turn when raised. i would especially be inclined against some tournament pro with money to burn.
not that i ever play this high but if i did..... |
