nsj,

i think i'm pretty mature, i see my mistakes and other player's mistakes instantly. For example, a player did not reraise with the nut straight. I saw it and knew it was a mistake. Also, i'm calling too much and should fold more.

When i won that $140, i played super aggressive and alot of players called me with my nut hands. It felt great, but losing it all back really sucked.

You definitely spotted my #1 and #2 leak, playing down to their level and staying cool. I need to remember to keep playing solid poker, even though a player beat me with his 7 4 o.

Your story gives me confidence, don't ever want to lose $140 (35 bb) again because I've learned my lesson my first time.

Oh yeah, here's my bankroll info. I'm willing to play with $400 dollars. Read theory of poker (need to understand it better), but need to get them low limit books. I'll go buy it today and keep u guys posted on how well i do online and b & m in the future.

wow, u guys really want me to improve my game. lol

thanks again,

YoungOne

$2/4 is too high for you if you want to be reasonably confident of not losing $140. 35 BBet downswings are fairly common. Nothing wrong with deciding that's too much for you -- I just moved down from $4/8, which I know I can beat, to $2/4 because losing $300+ in a session was too depressing to me. But if $140 is beyond that point for you, you need to be realistic.

Or you can just set loss limits -- down $100 and you're going home. Just be aware that it's pretty easy to go down 25 BBet quickly, cutting your poker short for the day.

One thing is to keep perspective. To "figure out" if you are winning - or how much you are winning - -you really need at least 10's of thousands of hands. Some might say even more.

But whatever - you played 15 hours - it seems like a long enough time to get a feel for things, but it's really what - about 450 hands? A drop in the bucket really. what that really means is that the variability in poker is so great , that you can't to always expect to win every session - even if you really ae the best player at the table.

Welcome to the forums. You might swing by the Beginner's Forum too if you have a chance.

It was insane, got tilted and lost it all back plus 140 of my own money (playing trash hands of course). I left and felt I played good but way toooo long. I played for 15 hours straight

[/ QUOTE ]

So much packed it that bit right there.

1) It was ALL your money. Don't get into the habit that some gamblers do of thinking you're playing "on the house dime" or with someone else's money. That leads to tilt. That money is all yours.

2) Tilt. Sounds like you had both winner's tilt and loser's tilt going on. You were crushing the game so you started playing more hands and then the whack-jobs started hitting two-outers and that sent you over the edge. It's hard to avoid winner's tilt. But when you feel anything coming on that diverts you from playing properly, stand up and walk around. Get something to eat. Cash out even. Tilt is a killer. If you're so inclined read Zen and the Art of Poker by Larry Philips - it helped me. Also John Feeney's Inside The Poker Mind was very helpful.

3) 15 hours straight. Way too long for your maiden voyage.

As for your comment later about avoiding losing 35BBs in the future, I guarantee you'll lose that and more. Just because you've learned you don't like to lose, doesn't mean you won't. In fact, you will have large losing sessions, and the best you can do is prepare by learning to avoid tilt.

Good luck,

T

Thahero,

Oh yeah, funny story. Some kid sat down and he hit ace high straight. He then went on and betted all in for 100 dollars. Dealer told him, "sir, this is limit holdem." oooops. lol

I just sat there and realized, what a game. Even though i did lose 35 bb, i feel this is definitely a very nice game.

gtg,

Oh, good grief. If you think the identity of your "fishbowl" merits this kind of secrecy, you're probably one of the kinds of people on this site that I have no use for. You know -- the type that gets hours of free coaching out of posting and asking for advice, and then acts like 2+2 is their own personal treasure trove not to be shared with the riff-raff. Run along and enjoy your "goldmine".... and stop trying to take advantage of this community.

Like you have to hide the name of that casino with the soft $2/4 games.... you know, that one.... that's EVERY [censored] CARDROOM THAT SPREADS $2/4 IN THE UNITED STATES. *rolling eyes*

Hopefully all it takes is a -35 big bet downswing to drive you and your ilk out of poker.

AKJQA,

Good point, I guess it's no secret that every 2/4 game is filled with fishes (including me). Sorry, hope i'm back on your friendly list.

I played at Canterbury Park, in Shakopee, MN. I know for a fact that alot of players there roam this site. Hope to meet some of them too.

sorry bro,

YoungOne

Wow you cant be serious. Im from L.A. Between Commerce, HP and the Bike plus online, Ive got plenty action. Its somewhat ridiculous that you think thousands of 2plus2 sharks will show up at your casino tomorrow and dry up your fish bowl.

The main reason I asked was because I know a Madden player that went by YoungOne who is from the Bay Area. Just wanted to see what area you were from mainly. The actual casino was secondary.
