Re: Flop middle set in a big pot. What\'s the play?
On the flop, the Four Jacks example in Theory of Poker was going through my head. For those that aren't familiar, it's where you have 4 jacks on 7th street showing in a stud game, and so there is no point in betting, since he can only call if you're beat. Anyone think that applies here? He was a good enough player that raising the turn would likely make him fold if he had aces. Or is it foolish to give someone that much credit?

Not sure who the player was, but I don't play the NL at GT that much. Young, Chaldean looking kid. Seemed like a pretty good player.

the problem is that check calling also gives away your hand with great exactitude

does check calling ever look like a weak ace?

Re: Flop middle set in a big pot. What\'s the play?
minraising as opposed to raising pot with nuts/nothing seems like it would pretty much be a wash, except for when you give cheap cards to a draw. maybe someone can explain why it's better than raising more? for the purposes of this argument, assume in the case of raising the pot we've trained our opponents well enough so that they know we generally bet and raise the pot (i.e. a pot raise seems normal coming from us).

Re: Flop middle set in a big pot. What\'s the play?
I don't think it's giving him much credit if you assume that he would definitely fold any ace to any raise on the turn. That's the opposite of credit .
Now, how to get the best value from your hand is much more complicated issue, and I'm not good enough to advise you better than the others here. |

a general thought is perhaps you want to work on having an image here such that your opponent will feel it necessary to pay you off with AK.
