Re: The Psychology of Poker
The book has very little to say about tilt. However, you can read my articles on tilt at cardplayer.com. Click on magazine, writers, and my name.
You should also read related articles on "Anger Management." The three part series began in the current issue. Regards, Al |

POP is also on my list of "required reading" for all new players that I have advised. Basically you just can't be an advanced player if you don't understand the concepts in this book.

Re: The Psychology of Poker
I did enjoy the writing on anger management. I have sinced stopped a nasty habit I had. Whenever someone would suck out on me with dork math cards and crack my monster hand, I would threaten to bury a pen in their eye. This really upset a lot of people, including the room managers. Now I go to my "special place," imagining I am back on the beach in Kauai, frolicking in the surf. A quick belt of bourbon to wash down a handful of valium and I'm ready for action. Anger? No problem! Now I have to work on the hallucinations. "Baby steps," they say. Ya...Try taking baby steps when the dealer is growing tentacles.

Re: The Psychology of Poker
This should be a safe thread for my first post. Dr. Al's book is an absolute 100% "must-read". I would have been a TPP the rest of my life had I not read and understood the concepts.
I couldn't figure out why I always either broke even or won/lost very little. Now I win much more than I used to and am prepared for the swings as a result of the changes I've made the past several months both online and in B&Ms. Thanks Dr. Al!! Onaflag........ |
